This should be quite simple, along the lines “one picure is worth 1,000 words”. A diffuser is something that breaks a gaseous or smoke material such as the shisha you have in your tobacco bowl and into the metal shaft acting as a diffuser and the smoke flow¬† by way of bubbles through your water cooling the smoke and hence the hubbly bubbly noise. You can get even more bubbles, smaller too with less noise by making a diffuser. I have 2 larg sized hookahs side by side, one with my diffuser and one without. As I listen to music and smoke, the bubble sound in the non diffuser hookah tends to drown out the sound of music. The hookah with a diffuser much less.

Here is what you need to DIY diffuser. 2,3,4,5 plastic drinking straws, the bending kind are best. For mini hookah and junior the diffuser is great since it will make the short shaft longer. But since the mini has such a small shaft diaeter, 2 would probably be all you need. Rule of thumb, putin as many as will fit. Into my large hookah shaft at the bottom, I only got in 4.

I actually prefer cutting  the straws longer and  as you put your shaft into the water of the bowl, they splay out in all directions also sideways, something  that no plain shaft can do.

You’ll find the draw a bit harder, which will create extra smoke but much cooler and quieter!

Happy smoking , don’t pull a muscle lifting those straws! This is so simple. When cleaning the shaft you can save them a few times or make new in 10 seconds.

This is coincidental.Really! I dreamed about cookies last night tho not Frank Zappa or milk), must have been because of the Yom Kippur fast yesterday-I don’t even eat cookies.

I’m not writing this because I wanted to add onto the hose info, but here anyways I must mention something along those lines.

I¬† took out a 200 gram tin of “Al-Ouns” shisha tobacco, cherry flavour.

Tip one :

With the tin (as in cans, containers) of shisha 200-250 or if you are even luckier the 500 gram and kilo variety you must remember what you learned in 6th grade science; that liquids¬† as in water, glycerine and everthing liquid ( but oil when placed on water) will flow to the lowest level. Why? No scientist can tell you why, you’d have to be the creator of water to explain what the scientists call “an obsevable behavior pattern) that is, in everthing liquid we see that it flows down to the lowest level when going through solids, unless it evaporates , turns to gas and raises skyward.Therwise, how do we explain that oil which is much heavier than water….rises to the top.Go ask its Creator “why” though in Torah this is well explained in the Kabbalah and other mystical teachings as a miracle.And why.Actually ALL nature is a miracle which we have gotten used to¬† seeing as a visual obsevable behavior pattern, as in the chloryphyll in plants turning to energy by the sun’s solar energy.

What does this mean for hookah smokers?Simple, that your glycerine in the honey, tobacco and glycerine mix will go to the bottom of the can as you sleep, breath, eat and smoke your new hookah. Ergo, you have to open the can, smell the shisha and thank whoever it is you thank that you have some, then proceed to mix the bottom which will be of much  more glycerine content than the top to get an even smoke for now, and not to smoke too much glycerine later.

Second tip. Don’t do what I just did, but after mixing and preparing my bowl, coals and smoking, I realized that the hose was previously used for smoking mint, which overcomes my cherry taste! Change hoses.Its not a bad free¬† mint mix but not what I wanted.

Hookah 1

Their are 2 basic smoking hoses for the narghilah. “Washable” and non-washable”.

Almost every hose is non-washable no matter what it is listed as. The p.v.c. hoses which are made in China, black hose with good agility are of course 100% washable. Most hoses are strengthened with a metal coil tube and even blowing out the dirt  after each use is not enough, they accumilate resins and dirt after awhile.

These are listed as “washable” but I don’t see detachable heads, and those ARE wood mouthpieces, no?

This ain’t no clean machine

I have made myself a very long hose in thee past by buying a tube of p.v.c. at a hardware store (don’t forget to take along¬† your hookah hose¬†mouth piece¬†and attatchment so they fit to size. At home you might need to heat with hot water the tube ends to get them in well expanded and then of course after awhile they will go back to a 100% perfect fit!

Don’t buy this, it is wire re-inforced and it will rust.This looks like it doesn’t have wire.

 This is re-inforced  hose but from the photo given, I think that it is covered in plastic.Very good.Wire enforced. Looks like what is being sold as washable. Maybe here also the wire is covered ina plastic cover? Beautiful colours for a hose!

You will even see the smoke in this clear plastic¬† hose, but it is a very un-wieldly hose and you must be careful that you don’t knock over the hookah from moving it around even a little. There are I’ve only heard a more flexable p.v.c. hose¬† for air conditioners that are better….

but I have bought the black hose above from smoking-hookah.com, and like it a lot.Its also very wide. I have a longer hose that I made cutting the end of one, attatching the whole end of one and using a soft electric tape to cover for no air leaks. Its so long, but the regular one and the looooong home-made are both really flexable!Here is an adaptor if needed :

After more checking, I’ve found that a lot of these braided hoses are used for water, milk and food industrial uses, one being the “Milwaukee Rubber Com”
